E248: 1993 Ford SVT Cobra R

The 1993 Ford SVT Cobra R; less pony, more stallion, but it's clear this stud's race is over. With a PI of 248, this car sits in the middle of the E Class cars of Forza. It's not quite useless, and can prove difficult the first few times you take it for a spin, but with patience and a light foot, this thing can prove it belongs on the track.

The Specs:

Front Engine
Rear-Wheel Drive

Power: 235hp
Torque: 280 lb-ft
Weight: 3125 lbs
Front: 57%
Displacement: 4.9L

Ratings:
Speed: 4.9
Handling: 4.9
Acceleration: 4.2
Launch: 5.0
Braking:4.6
When I first heard the rev of the SVT Cobra R, I was stunned. This thing sounds beastly! And unlike other cars that are made in 1993, it's supposed to sound this way. Even with a big 4.9 Liter engine in the front, the car's weight ratio isn't as unbalanced as I would have thought. However, it's still not perfect, and this thing takes some time to get just right.

First thing I have to say about this car is if you want to race it, get tires. Traction is non-existent with the stock tires. From the get-go, this thing will burn rubber for precious seconds. Additionally you can easily lose traction while tapping the throttle mid-turn. It's quite fragile, and takes a bit of time to get things right.

But when you're going with it, it shows its promise. If you can manage the traction, then you'll be fine with the slight oversteer. In the wider tracks, its easy to get distracted and start doing long drifts and use up all the road. However in the smaller tracks, you'll need to focus to keep this thing on the tarmac.

This appetite for asphalt could have something to do with the not-so-great brakes. If they were a little bit stronger, it'd make this car much more manageable on the tracks. As it is, this car is an awesome project, it's got potential to make for a great car into the D and Mid-class with some careful upgrades.

F100: 1984 VW Rabbit GTI

The 1984 VW Rabbit GTI:

There's no other way to say this: this is technically the worst car in the Forza Motorsport 3.
With a PI of just 100, it hardly makes the cut. However, after spending some time with the hot hatch, it's not all bad.

The Specs:
Front Engine
Front Wheel Drive
Power: 90hp
Torque: 105 lb-ft
Weight: 2,100
Front: 63%
Displacement: 1.8L

Ratings:
Speed: 3.4
Handling: 4.4
Acceleration: 3.0
Launch: 4.0
Braking: 4.3

The specs tell the story of an underpowered car. However, the car's torque is acceptable, and gives the car a fairly strong launch. In the drags, the car was usually in the front half of the other F class cars.
It starts strong, but unfortunately it can't keep it up. The car's top speed can't handle the speed of other F class cars.
That aspect alone makes it a poor choice for longer tracks with extended straight-aways. Furthermore, the car understeers quite badly. In the corners in the New York Circuit, I was constantly worried about heading into the walls. The understeer can likely be attributed to the body roll exhibited during turns. This thing feels like a boat!
While the car understeered in the corners, it wasn't so bad in the chicanes in the New York circuit. The handling of the car is acceptable in smaller tracks. I felt it performed fairly well in smaller tracks like, on Ladera.
In all, the car isn't as bad as the PI indicates. It's not tough to drive, and isn't a complete waste of credits.
Spending some credits in upgrading the transmission for quicker shifts would be worthwhile. The most effective upgrades would be in upgrading the horsepower to get some more top-speed. Also, if you get sea-sick quickly, it'd benefit you to upgrade the suspension to reduce body-roll.

Introduction

Welcome to FM3 Cars!
This is where you can find reviews and opinions of the many cars in Forza Motorsport 3!
We'll start with the Lowest class cars, and work our way up from there.
Go ahead and comment on each post, but keep it civilized! If you don't like whats written, theres no need to be a troll about it!

All Reviews are done with the following in-game settings:
Autobrake Off
Anti-Lock Brakes On
Stability Control Off
Traction Control Off
Shifting: Automatic
Suggested Line: Braking Only
Opponent Difficulty: Medium
Damage Fuell and Tire Wear: Simulation

I don't have a steering wheel, so all testing is done on a corded controller.

I'll post the quarter and half-mile drag results and of the following tracks:
The Full Circuit of the Ladera Test Track
The Short Circuit of the Maple Valley Raceway
The Full Circuit of the New York Circuit
The Grand Prix Circuit of the Circuit de Catalunya

See you, and enjoy!
